Baseball: Newbury Park improves to 3-0

First-year Coach Chuck Berrington has Newbury Park off to a 3-0 start after a 6-3 victory Wednesday over defending Southern Section Division III champion Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (2-1) in the Southern California Invitational tournament at Notre Dame.
Jack Marder, Michael Dennis and Jimmie Sherfy each hit home runs for the Panthers. Marder went three for three, making him eight for nine on the season. Newbury Park started three freshmen.
Newbury Park is one of many top teams from the Marmonte League, which begins league action next week. Try and pick who’s the favorite among Simi Valley, Royal, Westlake, the Panthers and Thousand Oaks.
