Boys’ basketball: Westchester 26, Fairfax 24

As expected, Westchester and Fairfax are in a tight contest, with Westchester ahead, 26-24, at halftime of their Division I Southern Section Regional semifinal at L.A. Southwest College.

The Comets are ahead despite cold shooting by their guards. Dominique O’Connor is two for nine. Jordin Mayes is two for eight. But Mayes contributed a four-point play in the second quarter to give Westchester a 25-20 lead.

Renardo Sidney has 12 points for Fairfax. The winner will play in Saturday’s 8 p.m. Regional final at Pauley Pavilion. Another City Section team, Woodland Hills Taft, leads top-seeded Riverside King, 34-21, at halftime.
