Top-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei has taken a 3-1 lead over No. 3 Capistrano Valley in the fourth inning of Friday night’s Newport Elks tournament championship game in Irvine.

Aaron Northcraft has hit a pair of run-scoring singles off Oklahoma State-bound left-hander Kevin Chambers, who threw a shutout in his season opener.

USC-bound right-hander Jake Hamblin has limited Capistrano Valley to one hit through three innings.
