Boys’ basketball: Windward will be going onward

Senior point guard Darius Morris dunked on the last play of the game for two of his game-high 15 points to lead Windward to a 52-40 victory over Pacific Hills in the Southern California Division V regional championship today at Cal State Fullerton.

After trailing 19-14 at halftime, top-seeded Windward (28-6) outscored Pacific Hills (28-7) 19-11 in the third quarter to gain a three-point lead heading into the fourth. Windward then went on a 9-2 run to start the fourth to give itself a cushion.

Both Morris and sophomore forward Wesley Saunders had double-doubles, Morris also had 10 rebounds. Saundercontributed 12 points and 12 rebounds and senior center Anthony Stover scored 10 points for Windward. Senior forward Alex Osborne led Pacific Hills with 11 points.

At the end of the game, Windward’s crowd chanted ‘Sacramento’ in anticipation of next week’s state championship game at Arco Arena. This will be the Wildcats’ first state title-game appearance.
