Josh Mason picked up the save and also contributed an RBI double in the seventh inning to help No. 4-ranked Encino Crespi (6-0, 1-0) defeat Chaminade, 3-2, in its Mission League opener Tuesday.

Ryon Healy went the first six innings on the mound, striking out seven and allowing two hits. But after giving up a home run to Brando Tessar and a walk, Mason was brought in, and he retired the side.

In another Mission League opener, No. 13 Mission Hills Alemany (5-1, 1-0) scored 10 runs in the first inning, then held on for an 11-7 victory over Loyola. Sophomore Edgar Montes had two doubles and three RBIs in the first inning.
