Softball: Faster to First tournament on tap

Excelling in Nike’s Faster to First tournament will be a home run for any softball team. The tournament Thursday through Saturday at Huntington Beach Sports Complex features some of the top softball teams in the state.
Fourteen of the 24 participating teams were featured in ESPN RISE’s preseason Fab 50, and the 13 SoCal teams in the second edition of the tournament include the top five teams in The Times’ rankings: No. 1 Hart, No. 2 Norco, No. 3 Vista Murrieta, No. 4 Simi Valley and No. 5 Valencia.
The out-of-area competition isn’t too shabby either. The top contender, Sacramento Sheldon, was last year’s tournament runner-up and was adorned by Cal-Hi Sports with the title of state team of the year. Sheldon returns its all-American battery of Jolene Henderson and Lindsey Ziegenhirt and is ranked tops in the nation by ESPN RISE. www.eteamz.com/canyonfastertofirst/
