New leagues for City Section don’t look too appealing

There’s a good reason not to let City Section athletic directors vote on the formation of new leagues. They’re no different than coaches. They’ll vote for whatever helps their individual schools.

That explains how messed up a plan for the formation of new leagues looks for the San Fernando Valley region.

As voted on at a recent meeting, Canoga Park would move to the West Valley League with Taft, El Camino Real, Chatsworth and Cleveland, while Birmingham would join a league made up of Monroe, Panorama, Reseda and Arleta.

If that happened, Canoga Park would rarely win any games and Birmingham might not have enough in its budget for all the championship trophies it would win. Both schools are not happy and intend to fight the proposal.

On April 14, all the regions meet to reveal their proposals to the re-leaguing committee. Hopefully, the Valley proposal is dead on arrival.
