Don’t be surprised if freshman right-hander Trevor Bauer gets pitcher-of-the-week honors in the Pacific 10 Conference after throwing 13-1/3 innings this week for UCLA and picking up two victories.

The former Newhall Hart pitcher should be a high school senior right now, but he decided to graduate last Decemeber and enroll early at UCLA. On Wednesday, he threw eight innnings in UCLA’s 7-2 victory over Pepperdine.

On Sunday, he threw 5-1/3 shutout innings of relief in UCLA’s 8-6 Pac-10 victory over Arizona, coming back on three days of rest.

He’s now 3-3 with a 2.06 earned-run average in 39 innings, making him one of the top freshman pitchers in college baseball. No wonder Hart Coach Jim Ozella would have loved to have had him for his senior year.
