Neil Reed, the former Indiana basketball player made famous by a 1997 video showing a physical altercation in which then-Hoosiers Coach Bob Knight appeared to choke him, has been hired as coach at Pioneer Valley.

Reed replaces Greg DeNike, who resigned after his team won only one PAC-7 League game last season. Reed has spent the last three years as an assistant basketball and football coach at the school.

Reed told the Santa Maria Times this week that ‘definitely, time has put a little distance’ from the incident with Knight. ‘That’s been good.’
