A committee in charge of realignment for City Section sports leagues has put Birmingham back in the West Valley League and moved Canoga Park back into a new Central League because of equity concerns.

Canoga Park will join Arleta, Panorama, Monroe and Reseda in the new Central League. The East Valley League would be made up of Poly, Grant, North Hollywood, Byrd, Van Nuys and East Valley. The North League will be Verdugo Hills, Kennedy, Granada Hills, San Fernando and Sylmar.

The committee also decided to keep Belmont in the Northern League and Los Angeles in the Southern League.

The big question is whether Verdugo Hills wants to switch places with Arleta, which has strong football and baseball programs and would be expected to dominate in its new league alignment.

Schools can appeal the decision.
