Baseball: Chatsworth is back tied for first place in West Valley

After losing to Reseda Cleveland, 3-2, on Tuesday, top-ranked Chatsworth regained its offensive edge on Thursday, pulling away for an 8-3 West Valley League victory over the Cavaliers.

Andrew Klausmeier hit a three-run home run and struck out four in two innings of relief. Ryan Cooperstone and Derek Neely added two hits apiece.

Jeremy Stearn hit a two-run home run for Cleveland (14-4, 5-1). Chatsworth improved to 18-2 and 5-1. Cleveland faces a tough two-game series with Woodland Hills El Camino Real next week.

El Camino Real defeated Birmingham, 17-1, in a game stopped after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Jose Cardona allowed two hits in five innings, and Michael Booth, Alex Mejia, Travis Keppel, Mitch Bluman and Ivan Velahad two hits apiece for El Camino Real (14-5, 4-2).

Granada Hills defeated Taft, 15-1, scoring 13 runs in the second inning, to force a mercy-rule ending in the fifth.
