Glenn Bell, Santee coach, dies at 61

Glenn Bell, a teacher for 39 years who coached football and other sports at Los Angeles Santee, Dorsey, Palisades, Manual Arts, Compton and Camp Kilpatrick, died this morning of a heart attack. He was 61.

Ken Bell said today was going to be the first day of retirement for his brother, who was coaching boys’and girls’ tennis at Santee after retiring as the school’s first football coach in 2007.

Glenn Bell guided Dorsey to the 1982 City Section 3-A championship in football. He started the Santee football program in 2005 and received the CIF Model Coach Award in 2008.

‘He was one of the finest coaches I’ve ever met,’ Santee Athletic Director Tina Tamura said. ‘He was a true mentor of young people.’

Born in Los Angeles in 1948, Bell attended Manual Arts. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, and two daughters. Funeral arrangements are pending.
