At a meeting Tuesday among athletic administrators from the Marmonte League, it was agreed that Newbury Park athletes will be able to compete this week in sporting events despite the school being closed because of a ‘probable’ case of the swine flu.

Because some parents have expressed concerns over playing games at Newbury Park, several events scheduled on campus will be switched to road games, assistant principal Richard Urias said.

Opponents have been told not to shake hands or give high-fives. The ban brings back memories of 1994, when a similar handshake ban brought the league ridicule. This time it’s for safety reasons.
