Chase Rettig is already a hot commodity at San Clemente and he hasn’t thrown a pass in a game for the Tritons.

As San Clemente opens spring practice today, the transfer from Pasadena La Salle is being evaluated in person by coaches from Arizona State. Coaches from USC are scheduled to visit Tuesday, with Brigham Young and Utah stopping by last week.

What’s all the fuss about? Well, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound rising senior passed for 1,275 yards and 13 touchdowns last season for a La Salle team that finished 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the Camino Real League. In other words, he produced great numbers on a bad team and is poised for much bigger things with the Tritons, who finished last season 8-3.
