Sophomore pitcher Matt Lathuras threw a complete-game four-hitter to help Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeat Los Angeles Loyola, 5-1, Thursday to win the Mission League championship.

The Knights (22-5, 10-2), who won the Southern Section Division III championship last season, will be in contention for a Division II title because of the development of Lathuras (4-0), who struck out six, walked one and has become a dependable No. 2 pitcher to Josh Goossen Brown.

Kelly Dugan hit his eighth home run of the season and Pedro Aldape went four for four.

Mission Hills Alemany likely earned a playoff spot as the No. 5 team from the Mission League with a 6-5 victory over Encino Crespi. Sean Becker threw a complete game and Cody Sulflow had three hits, including a home run. Crespi finished second, two games behind the Knights.
