Los Angeles Crenshaw learned Wednesday how far it still has to come to be competitive in City Section baseball when it was beaten by North Hills Monroe, 12-4, in a first-round Division II playoff game.

The Cougars were seeded No. 2 but lost to the fourth-place team from the Valley Mission League. Sylmar, San Fernando and Granada Hills Kennedy all finished ahead of Monroe and lost in first-round games of the Division I playoffs.

The good news for Crenshaw is that it has lots of young players who figure to get better. The bad news is getting beat in the first round of the playoffs prevents them from receiving valuable playoff experience.
