There are no definitive plans yet, but a memorial service for Loyola Athletic Director Jon Dawson, who died of a brain aneurysm in the early morning hours Monday, will likely be held on campus sometime early next week.

Dawson was vacationing with his wife, Sandy, in Boston when he was stricken. He had been a significant presence at Loyola for more than 35 years, beginning his career at the school in 1974 as a history teacher who became known for his injection of humor and storytelling into the classroom.

‘Jon was loved by students and faculty alike,’ said Loyola President Greg Goethals. ‘His impact was tremendous and profound. For many students and alumni he was the lens through which they both viewed and experienced Loyola High School.’

Dawson is survived by his wife, son Curtis, daughter Shannon and several grandchildren. Notes of condolence may be sent to Sandy Dawson at 2653 Olympic View Drive, Chino Hills CA 91709.
