Beach volleyball: Local girls’ duo seeks success

Juniors Alyssa Walton from Flintridge Sacred Heart and Amber Hawthorne from Granada Hills will be partners in the 16-and-under division at the California state championships in beach volleyball set for Sunday in Manhattan Beach.

Hawthorne is a starting setter at Granada Hills and was an All-City selection. Walton started as an outside hitter for Sacred Heart. They put together a string of second-place finishes this summer to earn an invitation into an event that allows for eight teams in each age division.
