Oceanside moved up from Division II to Division I under new division guidelines established by the California Interscholastic Federation for its state championship bowl games, meaning there will be a clash of potential Division I participants Sept. 25 when the Pirates host Long Beach Poly.

Poly is ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times, while Oceanside is ranked No. 1 in the San Diego Section in the San Diego Union-Tribune preseason poll.

Most of the other changes came among Northern California teams because the CIF changed the enrollment cutoffs in that area for Division I to 1,850 students and Division II to 1,250. A full breakdown of the divisions among Southern California teams can be found here.
