Here’s a tough question: What is the only high school football team in Southern California that has a 7-0 record?

It’s St. Genevieve, the school in Panorama City that once was a football powerhouse when Lindon Crow was the coach in the late 1970s and early 1980s. One of Crow’s assistants was Ed Croson, who would go on to coach Birmingham to four City Section championships.

St. Genevieve’s program has come out of hibernation thanks to third-year Coach Eric Harris, a 28-year-old former Chatsworth linebacker, and senior quarterback Chris Navarro, who has run for 24 touchdowns and passed for eight touchdowns.

On Saturday night, the Valiants will celebrate their 50th anniversary as a school with a homecoming game against Long Beach St. Anthony at Sun Valley Poly.

Let’s just say the alumni are happy that the football team is back in high gear.

Here’s a conversation with Navarro about where he came from and the St. Genevieve program.
