Behind a dominant performance by its defense, Crenshaw has taken a 21-7 halftime lead over archrival Dorsey tonight in a Coliseum League game at Crenshaw.

The Cougars forced two turnovers and held Dorsey to 14 yards of total offense. The Dons did not get a first down until nearly 17 minutes had elapsed and finished the half with only two first downs (one by penalty).

Crenshaw’s shutout bid ended when Robert Herron returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter.

The Cougars had just taken a 21-0 lead on Geoffrey Norwood’s second touchdown run, this one a 16-yarder. Norwood has 107 yards in 16 carries.

Crenshaw wasn’t exactly the picture of efficiency on offense. The Cougars had two turnovers, including one inside the Dorsey 10-yard line, and committed numerous penalties.

But quarterback Marquis Thompson completed five of 10 passes for 96 yards and tailback DeAnthony Thomas had 41 yards rushing in seven carries.

Dorsey has used two quarterbacks, and neither has been effective. Jorrian Washington is used exclusively on running plays and has 16 yards in nine carries. The only pass Joshua Williamson completed in five attempts was to Norwood, who also plays linebacker for Crenshaw.

Dorsey will get the ball to start the third quarter and must show that it can sustain a drive to have any chance at a comeback.
