Football: Western Division final set to kick off

The national anthem has just been sung at College of the Canyons, where Mira Costa and Alemany will battle for the Southern Section Western Division championship in just a few minutes.

Top-seeded Mira Costa (11-2) is riding a 10-game winning streak, led by quarterback Kyle Demarco, who has thrown for 1,605 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 458 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Third-seeded Alemany (10-3) has won six in a row behind quarterback Vernon Adams, who has thrown for 2,333 yards and 22 touchdowns, and running back Malcolm Marable, who has 1,098 yards, 20 touchdowns and averages 85 yards per game.

The teams have one common opponent. Alemany beat Chaminade 41-28 in Mission League play and Mira Costa beat Chaminade 41-19 in the quarterfinals two weeks ago.

Mira Costa will kick off to start the game.
