Now I understand why Calabasas Coach Jon Palarz made such a passionate speech last October trying to make sure the school wasn’t removed from the Marmonte League and sent into the weaker Tri-Valley League. He’s trying to build a basketball powerhouse.

On Friday night, the Coyotes sent a message that they intend to challenge Thousand Oaks for the league title with a 76-62 victory over Simi Valley to improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

Jordan Coleman, who has signed with Hawaii, scored 26 points for Calabasas.
