Down by eight points with 3:22 left to Westlake Village Oaks Christian, Los Angeles Loyola decided to get tough on defense and didn’t give up a point the rest of the way in pulling out a 67-65 victory to improve to 9-0 and advance to the semifinals of the Oaks Christian tournament.

Miles Cartwright scored 27 points and Joe Stein added 16 for the No. 4-ranked Cubs, who will play Sacramento in Tuesday’s 8:30 p.m. semifinals.

Oaks Christian (7-3) went on a 15-2 run between the third and fourth quarters to seemingly take control of the game. Leading the way was guard Jono Wening, who scored all 16 of his points in the second half.

Trailing, 65-57, the Cubs began their comeback, and Oaks Christian ended up committing three consecutive turnovers in the final 90 seconds. Tony Wroblicky’s basket with 39 seconds left gave Loyola the lead at 66-65. A free throw by Stein with 16.8 seconds left made it 67-65.

Chass Bryan’s three-pointer at the buzzer missed.
