Richmond Salesian (9-0), the defending state Division IV champion, pulled out a 52-51 victory over Thousand Oaks in the quarterfinals of the Oaks Christian tournament.

Sophomore guard Dominic Artis connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key with 42 seconds left to give Salesian a 52-51 lead. But Artis missed two free throws with 10.1 seconds left, giving the Lancers (10-2) a chance to win.

But Thousand Oaks never got off a final shot because of strong Salesian defense.

Richard Mullaney had given the Lancers a 51-49 lead with 1:03 left, drilling a baseline jumper.

Washington-bound Desmond Simmons had 20 points for Salesian and Artis 15 points. Alex Tiffin and Evann Hall had 12 points apiece for Thousand Oaks, with Mullaney and Austin Solomon getting 10 points apiece.

Salesian will face Etiwanda in a semifinal game Tuesday at 7 o’clock.
