Summit girls’ basketball Coach Alexis Barile gave birth to twins on Thursday, and LaTrina Duncan, who formerly assisted at Los Osos, has been named the team’s interim coach until Barile returns.

‘I have no idea when Alexis might come back,’ Summit Athletic Director Ed Kearby told the Riverside Press Enterprise. He added, ‘It might not be this year.’

Barile’s twins were born 10 weeks premature.

‘I think she’s going home today, but the babies may have to stay [at the hospital] for a while until they get bigger. It may be two or three more weeks. After that it will be up to Alexis and her family what she does,’ Kearby told the newspaper.

Duncan coached Summit (12-4), ranked No. 14 by the Times’ rankings of the Southland, to a 48-47 victory on Saturday over Santa Margarita at the Adidas Challenge at Magnolia High.
