Westchester’s brief trip to the East Coast turned out to be a successful one, with the Comets coming away on Monday with a 55-51 victory over Jersey City (N.J.) St. Anthony in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

The Comets (15-2), ranked No. 1 by The Times, opened a 39-34 lead after three quarters but poor free-throw shooting and turnovers allowed St. Anthony to tie the score at 46-46 with 2:17 left.

That’s when Westchester guard Kareem Jamar made the play of the game, scoring on a layup, getting fouled and making a three-point play. He added another basket with 52 seconds left, plus three free throws to help Westchester overcome the loss of two starters to five fouls.

Jamar finished with 17 points.
