There were long stretches of the first half when it looked like Etiwanda didn’t belong on the same floor as Mater Dei, but the Eagles came back to finish the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 31-29 lead into intermission in the Division 1AA championship.

Etiwanda took its first lead of the game late in the first half on a breakaway layup by Aaron Crockett, only to have Mater Dei’s Keala King tie the score on a short turnaround jumper.

But the Eagles responded on a layup by Tyler LaCour to take the lead going into halftime. Mater Dei had led by as many as eight points in the first half.
