Boys’ basketball: Murrieta Valley wins title

Holding a two-point lead with under 30 seconds left, Murrieta Valley got a decisive three-point play from Mark Tarabilda’s with 16 seconds left, and the Nighthawks knocked off Compton, 50-44, in the Division 2AA championship game at the Honda Center.

Justin Gudger scored 21 points for Murrieta Valley (27-4), which used a passing game offense, lots of screens and solid defense to win the championship.

Compton (18-13) missed six consecutive free throws at one point in the final two minutes.
