Baseball: Owens strikes out 12 in 2-0 Edison victory

Another start, another victory for Huntington Beach Edison junior left-hander Henry Owens (3-0), who struck out 12, walked two and allowed four hits in a 2-0 win over Los Alamitos in a Sunset League opener Friday at Edison.

Christian Lopes had an RBI double and brother Tim Lopes had a solo home run for Edison (5-3, 1-0).

In the South Coast League, Mission Viejo defeated Capistrano Valley, 14-1. Ryan Muno went four for four.

In the Marmonte League, surprising Calabasas (5-2, 2-0) defeated Westlake, 11-4. Sean Landecker struck out five in five innings, and Alex Rubanowtiz hit a two-run home run. Royal stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Newbury Park. Agoura defeated Simi Valley, 6-3, despite a two-run home run from Cody Ramer.

In the Foothill League, Valencia West Ranch sophomore pitcher JC Cloney improved to 4-0, striking out 10 in 4 2/3 innings of relief in a 9-3 win over Saugus. Randy Poe had a two-run triple and Josh Heinz had three RBIs. Hart (6-2) defeated Golden Valley, 10-9, with Kevin Bailey getting a key two-run single.

In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake scored eight runs in the seventh inning to pull out an 11-9 victory over Alemany. Justin Genter hit a three-run home run in the seventh and also had a two-run home run in the second inning for the Wolverines. Encino Crespi defeated Chaminade, 8-6.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Los Angeles Loyola, 8-7. David Armendariz had four RBIs, including a two-run home run.

In the Del Rey League, Los Angeles Cathedral (4-2, 1-0) defeated Gardena Serra, 11-1, with Jaime Figueroa and Sergio Luna each getting three hits. It was revenge time for Cathedral Coach Scott Pearson, whose twin brother, Kevin, lost to Serra in football.

In a Channel League opener, Ventura defeated Dos Pueblos, 8-4.

In a nonleague City Section game, El Camino Real defeated Narbonne, 7-2. Jose Cardona threw a complete game and Mitch Bluman hit a three-run home run.
