Baseball: Sophomore lifts Alemany to victory

Sophomore pitcher Ryan Paramo allowed one earned run in six innings and struck out five to improve his record to 3-0 and help Mission Hills Alemany defeat Los Angeles Loyola, 5-3, Tuesday in a Mission League game.

Alemany (7-3, 2-1) also got a single, double and triple from Edgar Montes and three RBIs from Scott Rhodes.

Encino Crespi (8-2, 2-1) defeated St. Francis, 14-3. Kevin Williams hit a three-run home run and Michael Hubbard had two hits. John Kearns picked up the victory by throwing five innings. Coach Scott Muckey said that ace Ryon Healy will not pitch this week and has an MRI scheduled for next week after removing himself from the mound in a game against last week against Chaminade.

In the Olympic League, Max Fried struck out eight and improved to 4-0 in Montclair Prep’s 7-3 victory over Cerritos Valley Christian. The Mounties (6-2, 2-0) received two hits apiece from Max Miller, Luis Montiel, Nick Suniga and Tony Rosales. Mike Bustamante threw a no-hitter and Rusty Rapp hit a grand slam in Whittier Christian’s 13-0 win over L.A. Baptist. Whittier Christian is 8-1.

In the Del Rey League, L.A. Cathedral (5-2, 2-0) defeated Mary Star, 12-7. Joshua Ibarra had three hits and Kyle Merrill went three for three with three stolen bases.

In the Channel League, Buena defeated San Marcos, 7-0, and Santa Barbara defeated Dos Pueblos, 13-5.
