Boys’ basketball: Gardena Serra 48, Bishop O’Dowd 38

BAKERSFIELD _ Gardena Serra continues to send wave after wave of athleticism at Bishop O’Dowd, and the Dragons are starting to wear down in the Division III championship game.

After leading by four points at halftime, Serra has opened a 48-38 advantage entering the fourth quarter. Keith Shamburger has scored 14 points and Steven Archibald 12.

If Serra can hold on, the Cavaliers will become the first school to win state titles in football and basketball in the same school year.-- Eric Sondheimer
