Boys’ basketball: Birmingham has rising prospect

It happened with Tyler Honeycutt of Sylmar two summers ago. He came out of nowhere and became a top college prospect. Now Lake Balboa Birmingham might have a similar player in 6-foot-9 junior Marcus Holt, who is building buzz in the early spring competitions.

He’s playing for Pump ‘N Run and starting to pick up interest. He moved to the San Fernando Valley from Denver last January and only played in a few games for the Patriots, but his presence was a big reason why Birmingham upset Palisades in the City Section Division I playoffs.

Coach Jarvis Turner is going to build his team around Holt and take firm aim at West Valley League power Woodland Hills Taft.
