Baseball: St. John Bosco upsets first-place Servite

There’s never a day that goes by in the Trinity League without a little excitement, and that happened on Saturday, when Bellflower St. John Bosco, the last-place team in league, upset first-place Anaheim Servite, 6-3.

Manny De La Rosa had two hits and two RBIs. Koby Gauna and Kyle Peralta added two hits apiece. Servite dropped to 5-2 in league and in a tie for first place with Santa Ana Mater Dei. JSerra defeated Santa Margarita, 6-1. Reed Reilly, Corey Miller and Keaton Siomkin combined on a three-hitter. Clay Williamson had two hits and two RBIs.

In a Redondo tournament game, Karl Perez of La Mirada hit for the cycle and finished with six RBIs in his team’s 16-11 victory over Peninsula. The Matadores (13-8) have won 10 of their last 11 games. Woodland Hills Taft defeated Culver City, 5-3. Art Chavez had the game-winning single.

West Hills Chaminade won its 11th consecutive game, an 11-8 victory over Ventura. Brando Tessar and Mathew Troupe hit home runs.

David Lira threw the shutout in San Fernando’s 6-0 victory over Verdugo Hills. Lira had 10 strikeouts and allowed two hits.

Granada Hills Kennedy defeated Birmingham, 3-2, behind pitcher Ryan Cruz. Encino Crespi got a grand slam from Austin Walker in an 11-8 win over Campbell Hall.

L.A. Cathedral defeated Fremont, 16-0, in five innings. Joshua Ibarra had three hits and five RBIs.
