Baseball: Cardona throws two-hitter for ECR

Jose Cardona threw a two-hitter, striking out eight, to lift Woodland Hills El Camino Real past Reseda Cleveland, 4-1, on Thursday in a West Valley League game.

Chris Whitmer had two hits and Mitch Bluman added two RBIs for the Conquistadores (10-10, 5-0). Chatsworth (17-3, 5-0) defeated Granada Hills, 9-3. Aaron Brown, Justin Davis and Sean O’Connell had two hits apiece. Ryan Escobar hit a two-run home run.

Birmingham won its first West Valley League game in two years by beating Taft, 3-2, in nine innings. Kevin Torres of Birmingham went eight innings. Zach Friedman of Taft pitched into the ninth.

In the Marine League, Carson defeated Washington, 17-2, in five innings. Banning (16-6, 6-0) defeated Gardena, 11-0, in five innings, with Alex Sixtos throwing a two-hitter. He also had two hits and four RBIs. San Pedro defeated Narbonne, 7-3. Ronnie Galosic led off with a home run and Jacob Johnson had two hits.

In the Western League, Fairfax (14-4, 4-1) defeated University, 9-6. Equan Martin had three hits and three RBIs and Anthony Giannelli added two hits and two RBIs.

In the Mission League, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake scored six runs in the sixth inning to pull out a 7-6 victory over La Canada St. Francis. Connor Dillman and Andrew Shanfield had three hits apiece.

In the Ocean League, Alonzo Gonzalez of Santa Monica struck out 15 in a 13-1 win over Inglewood.
