The high school track season has been rocked by injuries to top performers, with hurdler D.J. Morgan of Woodland Hills Taft and pole vaulter Michael Woepse of Santa Ana Mater Dei gone for the season. Now the big question is whether sprinter Tevin Carter from Los Angeles Santee will make it back.

He has been sidelined for more than a month after a hamstring injury. That seems to be healed, but muscle pain in his back is raising the question whether he’ll be able to compete at this week’s Southern League prelims, which he must do to qualify for the City Section championships and state finals.

Coach Joe Kearney said he will see how Carter performs in practice this week to determine whether he’ll be able to run. If Carter can’t participate, it will leave Crenshaw’s De’Anthony Thomas as the lone top sprinter from the City Section.

Carter finished fourth in the 100 and third in the 200 at last year’s state finals. He’s a wide receiver in football who signed with California.
