Baseball: San Pedro adds to its lead

A run-scoring infield single by Nate Etheridge has given San Pedro a 2-0 lead over Wilmington Banning in a key Marine League game Tuesday afternoon at San Pedro.

Etheridge fouled off what seemed like 10 pitches before finally connecting off Pilots starter Jonathan Hernandez. One of his foul balls was dropped down the right-field line by Banning outfielder Mike Encinas.

Nolan Meadows had reached on a fielder’s choice and went to second base on Blake Mendoza’s single to left field before scoring on Etheridge’s hit.

San Pedro right-hander Jon Mata has allowed only two baserunners through the first two innings.
