Baseball: Game takes 66 minutes to complete

The umpires for Wednesday’s Marmonte League baseball game between Westlake Village Westlake and Newbury Park probably didn’t know what to do with all their free time after a pitchers’ duel between Alex Daley and Jordan Brower required only 66 minutes to complete.

Westlake won, 2-1, on Collin Yelich’s RBI single in the sixth inning that broke a 1-1 tie. Both pitchers threw 65 pitches on the day, and each gave up five hits. Daley (3-3) got the victory to help Westlake improve to 13-12 and 6-6. Newbury Park dropped to 17-9 and 7-5.

Simi Valley Royal (21-5, 11-1), ranked No. 1 in Division 1, clinched at least a share of the Marmonte title with a 10-2 win over Agoura. Justin Greco had three hits and four RBIs.

In the Sunset League, Henry Owens struck out eight, Kyle Jones hit a two-run home run and Christian Lopes had three hits as Huntington Beach Edison defeated Fountain Valley, 12-3. Anaheim Esperanza defeated Los Alamitos, 3-0.

In the Trinity League, JSerra defeated Bellflower St. John Bosco, 12-3. Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Santa Margarita, 4-2. Orange Lutheran defeated Anaheim Servite, 3-2.

In the Empire League, Andrew Alvarado had four hits in Valencia’s 9-4 win over Anaheim Loara.

In the Foothill League, Scott Barlow struck out seven to help Santa Clarita Golden Valley defeat Canyon Country Canyon, 3-0. JC Cloney threw a complete game and Chris Caldwell and Allen Sarkissian each hit home runs in Valencia West Ranch’s 10-2 win over Newhall Hart.

In the Suburban League, La Mirada defeated Cerritos, 20-2. Nicko Lancaster had four hits.

In the East Valley League, Arleta (23-4) defeated Canoga Park, 12-1, to finish a 12-0 league season. Miguel Perez went three for three and Robert DeSantiago added three hits.

In the Citrus Belt League, Griffin Murphy improved to 10-0 and Brad Burcroff hit a three-run home run to help Redlands East Valley (21-4, 10-1) defeat Yucaipa, 8-4.
