I know where all the pro scouts are headed on Tuesday for the opening wild-card games in high school baseball. They’ll be at Hueneme High for the Division 1 wild-card opener that could feature Hueneme’s Jesus Valdez against Dana Hills’ Peter Tago.

Valdez has signed with Arizona. Tago, a former UCLA commit, is now committed to Cal State Fullerton. Of course, perhaps the coaches will decide to save Valdez and Tago for the chance to face Edison’s Henry Owens on Thursday.

But if the team loses, there won’t be a Thursday matchup, so I expect a Valdez-Tago pitching duel.

Another terrific wild-card game is in Division 2, where West Hills Chaminade and Oregon-bound Brando Tessar will go against Diamond Bar and junior left-hander Kenny Mathews, another Fullerton commit. Tessar lost his last league game, 1-0, and he may need to throw a shutout Tuesday.
