Brando Tessar of West Hills Chaminade and Kenny Mathews of Diamond Bar put on a show Tuesday in a Southern Section Division 2 wild-card playoff game.

Each pitcher struck out 12. Mathews went three for three with a home run. But it was Tessar’s RBI single off the net in right field at Chaminade with one out in the bottom of the seventh that lifted the Eagles to a 3-2 victory.

Chaminade Coach Frank Mutz was impressed with Mathews, a junior left-hander committed to Cal State Fullerton. ‘Kenny Mathews is the best high school baseball player I’ve seen this year without a doubt,’ Mutz said.

Well, Tessar can’t be too far behind. He walked one and moved Chaminade to 24-6. The Eagles will play at Paso Robles on Friday in a first-round game. Michael Gingilian hit a home run for Chaminade.

Other Division 2 scores include Rialto over Burbank, 6-1, and Rancho Cucamonga over Vista del Lago, 1-0.
