This San Fernando-San Pedro first-round City Section Division I playoff opener is turning into a classic. In the bottom of the eighth, San Pedro loaded the bases with one out in a 7-7 tie.

Danny Matienzo hit a line drive to center fielder Erik Guerrero, who made the catch and threw out the runner at second base before the man from third was able to tag and score, completing the double play and sending the game into the ninth inning.

San Fernando has runners on second and third with one out in the ninth. There’s still lots of sun left, but both teams are using their best pitchers, leaving questions about who’s going to pitch against Arleta in Friday’s quarterfinals. But getting the win keeps the season alive.

UPDATE: San Fernando has scored two runs in the top of the ninth on a passed ball off an attempted squeeze and an RBI single by David Garcia to take a 9-7 lead.
