Baseball: City Division I semifinals are set

The City Section Division I semifinals on Wednesday will match No. 1-seeded Chatsworth against No. 5 San Pedro at Chatsworth and No. 2 Wilmington Banning against No. 3 Woodland Hills El Camino Real at Banning.

Chatsworth came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Woodland Hills Taft, 8-6. Brady Conlan went four for four with a solo home run. Alex Sawelson had a two-run home run for Taft.

San Pedro defeated Arleta, 3-1. Ronnie Galosic, who hit a three-run home run in the first round in the bottom of the ninth to beat San Fernando, had a two-run home run for San Pedro in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.

Banning defeated Palisades, 6-3, with Alex Sixtos striking out seven. El Camino Real defeated Birmingham, 11-1, in five innings. Daniel Dungan hit a grand slam.

In Division II, Fairfax defeated Gardena, 3-2, with Steven Giannelli throwing a five-hitter and Tony Gasparetti getting two hits and three stolen bases. Fairfax will host Venice, which defeated Eagle Rock, 8-7, in eight innings.

Top-seeded Westchester defeated Fremont, 13-0, in five innings. Robert Gsellman, the Western League player of the year who had been sick earlier in the week and didn’t play in the opener, had two doubles and a home run. Westchester will host Hamilton in the other Division II semifinal.

All four remaining Division II teams are from the Western League. The two winners advance to the Division II final at Dodger Stadium next Saturday at 10 a.m. The Division I final is at 1 p.m.
