For a second consecutive day, the temperatures are in the 90s and the winds are gusty for the state track meet at Clovis Buchanan High.

A good number of times on Friday were wind-aided, but hopefully the wind will subside as the evening approaches. Gardena Serra will try to set a national record in the 4x400 relay, the final event of the day scheduled for a 9:38 p.m. start. The Cavaliers broke the state record in their preliminary heat and have their sights set on the 3:07.40 registered by Hawthorne in 1985.

Serra junior George Farmer, who will compete in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, is attempting to become the first California athlete to win three state titles in the same school year. He could also accomplish the feat if Serra captures the team title, but the Cavaliers are handicapped after being disqualified in the 4x100 relay earler this season because of a zone violation.
