Football: A retirement celebration for Chris Ferragamo

Chris Ferragamo is retiring as football coach at Wilmington Banning, and his supporters are throwing him a block party and retirement dinner on Saturday.

The festivities begin at noon at Wilmington Christian School, 24910 South Avalon Blvd. There will be food, a beer garden, music and an appearance by the Banning marching band.

A dinner will take place at 4 p.m. UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero, a Banning grad, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Former Banning football greats are expected to pay tribute to Ferragamo, who began his teaching career at Banning in 1963 and guided the football team to six consecutive City championship and eight in a 10-year period.
