The quality of the teams, players and coaches were at a high level Wednesday at Los Angeles Loyola, where the host Cubs, Crenshaw, Dorsey and Garfield played one another in seven-on-seven action.

Dorsey and Crenshaw were going back and forth, each getting scores. Dorsey quarterback Joseph Gray was throwing well late in the game. Crenshaw quarterback Marquis Thompson was solid.

Garfield quarterback Leonardo Vaal showed off a good arm. Loyola quarterback Jerry Neuheisel was up and down. Loyola receiver Kodi Whitfield, only a junior, continues to earn a name for himself with his catching skills.

What I came away with was the feeling that all four schools are solid and should have productive seasons this fall.
