Difficult games are nothing new for Anaheim Servite.

Despite playing the top-rated schedule in California last year, the Friars went 14-1 and won the state Division II bowl championship. It hasn’t gotten any easier this season, as five of the team’s first six games have been against upper-echelon opponents (a 48-7 rout of Granada Hills Kennedy in Week 2 being the only ‘breather’).

So far, the Friars have tackled every challenge and they will face another big one tonight at Cerritos College, where they take on Bellflower St. John Bosco in a key Trinity League matchup. Ranked third in the Southland by The Times, Servite (6-0, 1-0) has outscored its competition by an average of 34 points per game and has trailed only once all season.

St. John Bosco (4-2, 0-1), ranked No. 23 by The Times, led 20-17 in the fourth quarter of last week’s league opener before Santa Ana Mater Dei scored the final 14 points. The Braves are the underdogs tonight but could emerge victorious if two-way star Bryce Treggs has another big game. The junior wide receiver/defensive back has 30 catches for 615 yards and seven touchdowns and has intercepted three passes.

This is a dangerous game for Servite, which had better not be looking ahead to next week’s showdown at Angel Stadium versus No. 21 Mater Dei, a 28-14 winner over Orange Lutheran on Thursday. The Friars will need to be sharp and avoid turnovers to keep their record unblemished.

Kickoff is at 7:30, so check back for score-by-score updates throughout the game.
