Citing ‘school issues,’ Santa Ana Mater Dei head coach Bruce Rollinson said senior running back Corbin Anderson will not play for the Monarchs tonight in their Pac-5 Division semifinal game against top-seeded Mission Viejo (12-0) at Santa Ana Stadium.

That’s bad news for Mater Dei (8-4), which will miss the spark he provided the last six games after being sidelined for the first half of the season with a knee injury. The all-purpose back has rushed for 641 yards and seven touchdowns and has 10 receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown this fall.

Anderson ran for 161 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Monarchs’ 17-0 quarterfinal victory over Las Flores Tesoro last week. Fellow running backs Josh Valdivia and Freddie Mora will need to step up in Anderson’s place if Mater Dei hopes to pull off the upset.
