Mater Dei quarterback Max Wittek threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Victor Blackwell, who leaped high to catch the ball at the Diablos’ 10-yard line and broke several tackles on his way to the end zone.

The Monarchs are smelling an upset, leading top-seeded Mission Viejo, 14-7, with 7:03 left in the second quarter. Mater Dei’s scoring drive covered 59 yards in 10 plays.
