Stephen Manfro‘s 1-yard plunge in the closing seconds of the second period pulled Valencia into a 14-14 tie with Oaks Christian at halftime of a Northern Division playoff semifinal at Valencia.

Manfro -- averaging better than 12 yards a carry this season -- was kept bottled up by a swarming defense, running for just 32 yards on 13 attempts. Quarterback Alex Bishop picked up some of that slack, throwing for 194 yards and a first-quarter touchdown to Jake Reed.

Oaks Christian answered with a pair of scores, the first on Ismael Adams’ 76-yard dash late in the first period and the second on Richie Herrington 5-yard strike to Jordan Payton midway through the second quarter.

Payton grabbed six passes for 142 yards and the score and would have had another touchdown but for an acrobatic interception by Reed in the end zone. Valencia would scoring the tying touchdown on the ensuing drive.
