Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos, combining lots of hitting with lots of pitching depth, won the Palm Desert tournament over the weekend, defeating the host school, 11-10, in the championship game.

San Diego State-bound Spencer Thornton, a center fielder who bats leadoff, ignited Los Osos offensively all weekend. Shortstop Blake James was also impressive, according to Coach Dominick Copas.

And the Grizzlies’ pitching staff that features UC Santa Barbara-bound Andrew Vasquez and UC Riverside-bound Cody Dill also performed well. Los Osos was 17-8 last season.

Making the semifinals were Riverside Poly and Vista Murrieta.
